DOOR PEEPHOLE

DOOR PEEPHOLE: Seen without being seen - Installation at a glance.

To install your door peephole, you will need:

1 meter
1 pencil
1 flat or Phillips screwdriver, depending on the model
1 wood bit if your door is wooden, or a metal drill bit, if your door is metal or armoured (of the diameter as indicated on the packaging).

Before selecting and buying a peephole, check the door thickness. Standard peepholes are adjustable and fit profiles of thickness from 25 to 41 mm and from 37 to 85 mm.

When purchasing your peephole, check the diameter of the cylindrical tube of the peephole indicated on the packaging to be sure to get the right bit (avoid the hassle of going back to the store to buy a drill bit).

STEP 1: DRILL THE DOOR

Before drilling the door, you will need to:
– Determine the height at which you want to install the peephole
– Make a reference mark so that it is installed in the centre of the door at the desired height

Gently drill the hole for the peephole taking care to drill the hole perpendicular to the door.

Tip: If your door is wooden, do not drill completely through as that could splinter the wood and damage your door.
Stop just as the tip of the wood bit shows on the other side, withdraw the bit and then go to the other side of the door and drill again from there, entering the tip of the bit into the hole that is just about to be finished.

STEP 2: INSTALL THE DOOR PEEPHOLE

Before placing your peephole, identify the direction of the peephole, as the viewfinder shall be from the inside of your home, and the magnifying lens shall be on the outer side of the door

Screw the two parts together:

First, insert the outer cylinder, and then, while holding it with one hand, insert and screw the interior part.
Start screwing by hand and finish with a large flat blade screwdriver. Hold the exterior part (the lens) with one hand and tighten the clamping screw located on the viewfinder side
Make sure the peephole is well fit in the door.

Generally, when you install a peephole in your door, you also need to install a spacer allowing to open your door ajar and talk, without allowing the passage into your home
